Box Score HANOVER, N.H. -- The Northeastern women's soccer team was just 14 seconds away from posting its fourth straight shutout, before Dartmouth's Lucille Kozlov buried a shot from a tough angle to give the Big Green a 1-0 win in double overtime on Friday night at Burnham Field.
The loss snapped the Huskies' (4-3-2) three-game unbeaten streak and handed NU its first road defeat of the season. The Red and Black were also outshot for the first time this year as Dartmouth (2-2-1) posted a 9-7 advantage in shots, including four attempts on goal.
After a quiet first half, both teams enjoyed quality chances in the latter stages of the match. Northeastern nearly found a breakthrough with 1:15 to play in regulation when sophomore
Nicole Wilkins attempted to chip Dartmouth keeper Casey Cousineau from the left wing, but the Big Green netminder was able to get a fingertip to the shot and direct it over the crossbar.
Dartmouth answered with a great chance three minutes into the first overtime. In the aftermath of a corner kick, the ball found its way to Kozlov at the right post, but NU keeper
Paige Burnett slid to her right and somehow kept the ball out.Â
Kozlov would have the final say in the second OT. With 30 seconds left in the game, Dartmouth's Corey Delaney split three Northeastern defenders at midfield and played a beautiful through ball up the left flank to Meredith Gurnee, who was making a run toward the right corner flag. Gurnee latched onto the pass and cut toward the net, before playing a square ball across the box for Kozlov to fire home from a difficult angle at the right of the cage.Â
The Huskies will look to regroup on Sunday for their non-conference finale against Albany. Kickoff from Parsons Field is set for 3 p.m.
