Cross country takes home top-10, top-20 finish at New England Championships

BOSTON – The Northeastern men's and women's cross country teams opened the championship portion of their season on Saturday at the New England Championships, hosted at Franklin Park by Boston University.
 
The men's varsity team took home a seventh place finish in the 8k with a total time of 2:07:49, while the women registered an 18th place finish in the 5k with 1:34:36.
 
Boston University finished in first on the men's side (2:06:03), while Boston College picked up first place on the women's side (1:29:41).
 
Thoughts from coach
"I thought the team had some really good performances," said head coach Cathrine Erickson.  "Paul Duffey was able to put together a really good race today and Jordan O'Dea is in a really good place."
 
Erickson added that the rest of the team is working through training and recovery to prepare for the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31 in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
 
"We're going to be ready. We've got a lot of depth and it's really good to see a lot of the freshmen step up and race so well," she said.
 
Varsity highlights
• For the women, Jordan O'Dea earned a solid third place finish with a total time of 17:44.3.
Nephat Maritim crossed the finish line at 25:06.6, slating him at 14th place.
Paul Duffey made his season debut with the Huskies, finishing 48th in 25:35.4, while Michael Potter cruised in behind him at 25:35.7.
