Women's ResultsBRONX, N.Y. – For the first time since 1975, the Northeastern men's cross country team clinched the university team title at the 107th Annual IC4A/ECAC Championship at Van Cortlandt Park.
The Red and Black finished with 77 points, followed by Rutgers with 114 points and Marist in third with 121. The Huskies' women's team capped their 2015 campaign with a seventh place spot in the ECAC university division with 131 points, just 10 points shy of third place. In first place was Marist with 80 points, followed by Stony Brook with 103 points and Monmouth with 121.
Paving the way during the men's five-mile was
Nephat Maritim, who cruised into second place overall (25:36.4) out of 183 runners. Following Maritim's lead was sophomore standout
Christian Stafford, who finished sixth overall (26:03.2).
Dan Romano capped the Huskies' top-10 finish with an eighth place spot (26:06.0).
"I am very proud of how our men raced today," said head coach
Cathrine Erickson. "They ran confident and strong and we see great potential for this group in the near future."
Picking up top-10 finishes in the women's 5k were
Jordan O'Dea with third place overall (18:20.0) and
Brooke Wojeski with sixth place overall (18:37.3) out of the 163 runners.
"The women are really laying a great foundation for the years to come," said Erickson.
Northeastern will move right into the indoor track and field season with the Boston University Season Opener on Saturday, Dec. 5.
