NWHL Draft Results  |  Twenty Questions with NWHL Founder Dani Rylan

BOSTON – Senior Kendall Coyne was selected as the third overall pick by the Boston Pride in the inaugural National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) Entry Draft on Saturday at Harvard's Bright-Landry Hockey Center.

Founded by Northeastern alumna Dani Rylan '12, the NWHL will contest its first season this fall. The professional league is composed of four founding franchises ("The Founding Four"), including the Pride, the New York Riveters, the Connecticut Whale and the Buffalo Beauts.

The Pride made Coyne their first pick in franchise history after the Riveters selected Alex Carpenter (Boston College) first overall, and the Whale tabbed Hannah Brandt (Minnesota) second. In addition to Coyne, the Pride also picked Emerance Maschmeyer (Harvard), Lexi Bender (Boston College), Miye D'Oench (Harvard), and Shannon MacAulay (Clarkson).

One of the top players in women's college ice hockey, Coyne ranks fifth in Northeastern history with 165 career points in only 96 games. Coyne was named a Top 10 Finalist for the prestigious Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award in 2014-15, and also garnered First Team Hockey East All-Star status, and Second Team ACHA All-America laurels.

With one season of NCAA eligibility remaining, Coyne needs 44 points to surpass Hilary Witt (208 points) as Northeastern's all-time leading scorer.
