Online resultsBOSTON – Northeastern men's and women's cross country competed in the Coast to Coast Battle in Beantown Friday afternoon at Franklin Park, hosted by Boston College.
The men's team posted a top-15 finish overall, earning 12th place in the 8k with 348 points and an average time of 25:19.
Four out of Northeastern's top five runners are new to the program, and three of them are rookies. "I thought our guys ran well and showed a lot of fight," said head coach
Cathrine Erickson, "the potential of this group is very big."
Senior
Nephat Maritim, a transfer student-athlete from Harvard, made his debut appearance with the Huskies, finishing 40th overall in 4:59.5 with 39 points.
Also adding to NU's finish was sophomore Christian Stafford, who crossed the finish line in 5:03.1 with 57 points, followed by first-year Dan Romano at 5:06.8 with 75 points. "I was pleased that Neph was able to put together a strong race and I know he will have a heck of a season," said Erickson.
On the women's side, the Huskies finished 21st overall in the 5k with an average time of 19:35 and 628 points.
Jordan O'Dea finished 47th overall in 5:45.1 with 46 points. First-years Elizabeth Harrington and Camila Cortina both finished the 5k under seven in their second outing with the Red and Black. Harrington crossed the finished line in 6:15.0 with 136 points and Cortina at 6:22.1 with 144 points. "Our women are very young, so we are looking forward to seeing how they develop," said Erickson.
The Huskies will now prepare for the New England Championships on Saturday, Oct. 10, in Boston.
