PHILADELPHIA – After a handball in the Drexel box afforded the Northeastern women's soccer team a penalty kick in overtime, sophomore
Hannah Rosenblatt calmly stepped up to the spot and fired home the game-winner to give the Huskies a huge 1-0 win over the Dragons in CAA play on Sunday at Vidas Field.
Both teams enjoyed quality chances through an evenly-matched opening 90 minutes. Drexel (5-5-1, 1-1-0 CAA) came close to taking the lead late in the first half when Vanessa Kara and Shaelyn McCarty hit the post, then the crossbar in quick succession.
Northeastern (6-5-1, 1-1-0) was then robbed by the woodwork early in the second half when sophomore
Valentina Soares Gache caught the crossbar on a long-range effort from the right wing.
Neither team could find a breakthrough until three minutes into the extra session when a Drexel handball gave NU the chance it needed to put the game away.
Goal Recaps
• Rosenblatt scored her second OT winner of the season when she stepped up to the penalty spot and drilled a low, hard shot inside the right post at 93:43 to give NU three points in the CAA standings.Â
