ARLINGTON, Va. – Freshman goaltender Aerin Frankel stopped 39 shots as the Northeastern women's hockey team (8-7-2) handed No. 1 Wisconsin (16-1-0) its first loss of the season with a 3-2 upset on Friday afternoon at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

Redshirt junior Tori Sullivan notched a goal and an assist, and McKenna Brand and Codie Cross also scored as the Huskies earned their second-ever win over a No. 1 ranked team in program history (Jan. 5, 2001 vs. Dartmouth).

The Huskies never trailed in the game despite being outshot by a 41-18 margin, including 32-8 over the final two periods. Northeastern went 1-for-3 on the power-play and killed off all five Wisconsin power-plays, including a 5-on-3 early in the third.

Goal Recaps
• McKenna Brand gave Northeastern a 1-0 lead at the 5:15 mark of the opening period with a power-play goal. After taking a feed from freshman Skylar Fontaine, Denisa Krizova and Brand exchanged passes leading to a Krizova shot from the top of the right circle that was deflected home by Brand in the crease for her eighth goal of the season.
• The Huskies doubled the lead just 1:04 into the second stanza. Following a dump-in by freshman Veronika Pettey, the puck took an odd bounce off the stick of Wisconsin netminder Kristen Campbell (15 saves) behind the net right onto the stick of Tori Sullivan, who made no mistake from close range.
• The Badgers cut the deficit in half at 15:09 of the second period when Presley Norby forced a turnover in the neutral zone and sprung Sam Cogan on a breakaway for a shot under the glove of Frankel.
• NU tacked on a huge insurance goal at 9:50 of the third period to make it 3-1. After a blocked shot by Tori Sullivan, the puck skipped onto the stick of Ainsley MacMillan, who alertly picked out Codie Cross coming out of the penalty box for a breakaway. Cross skated in alone and fired a shot through the five-hole of Campbell for her first goal of the season.
• Wisconsin added a late consolation goal when Abby Roque tucked a rebound past Frankel in the waning seconds with Campbell on the bench for the extra attacker.

Stats of the Game
• Northeastern beat a No. 1 ranked team for the second time in program history (Jan. 5, 2001 vs. Dartmouth) and improved to 2-21-2 all-time against top-ranked opponents.
• The Huskies improved to 1-1-1 against No. 1 ranked teams this season after opening the year with a tie and a loss vs. No. 1 Clarkson.
• Aerin Frankel's 39-saves tied her collegiate high, previously set in a shutout against Maine on Nov. 18.
• Codie Cross scored her third collegiate game-winning goal.
• Tori Sullivan notched her second multi-point effort of the season.
• McKenna Brand scored her 49th career goal; with one more goal, Brand would become the 23rd player in program history to score 50 or more.
• With an assist on Brand's goal, Denisa Krizova moved into sole possession of seventh place in the NU record books with 149 career points.
• Northeastern improved to 6-0-2 this season when scoring the first goal of the game.
• The loss snapped Wisconsin's 16-game winning streak, which was its fourth-longest in program history.
• Wisconsin allowed three goals in a game for the first time this season.
