BOSTON – Junior Lauren Kelly netted the overtime game-winner as the Northeastern women's hockey team (18-9-3, 13-7-2 WHEA) picked up its fifth straight victory with a 4-3 triumph over Providence (14-13-2, 9-8-2 WHEA) on senior day Friday at Matthews Arena.

The teams alternated goals through the first 60 minutes, before a Providence penalty late in the third period gave Northeastern an opportunity to seize the game in the extra session. The Huskies wasted little time netting the decisive tally as Kelly's point shot found the back of the cage just 1:07 into overtime to give Northeastern its first OT win of the season.

Junior Shelby Herrington, junior McKenna Brand and senior Hayley Scamurra also scored for Northeastern, while senior Sarah Foss turned in a strong performance in goal with 26 saves.

Goal Recaps
• Northeastern grabbed a 1-0 lead 6:22 into the first period when sophomore Kasidy Anderson forced a turnover along the left-wing boards in the Providence zone. The puck then skipped to the stick of Herrington in the high slot for a shot that found its way through traffic and into the back of the net.
• Providence tied the game at 14:52 of the opening frame when Brooke Boquist jammed home a rebound at the left of the net following a pair of big saves by Foss.
• The Huskies took the lead back at 7:30 of the second period when Brand notched her NCAA-leading 23rd goal of the year. Junior Ainsley MacMillan intercepted a pass in the PC zone and fired a shot that was blocked in front, allowing Brand to scoop up the rebound and shuffle the puck home to make it 2-1.
• The Friars responded again to tie the game at 2-2 when Cassidy MacPherson found Kate Friesen alone in the low slot for a power-play goal at 16:58 of the second period.
• Northeastern answered to make it 3-2 at 18:55 of the frame when Scamurra drove hard to the net and poked home a rebound at the right of the cage.
• Providence equalized 4:25 into the third when Madison Sansone flipped a shot over the glove of Foss from in tight to make it 3-3.
• The Huskies had the final say just over a minute into overtime when Kelly's shot from the left point snuck through a maze of bodies and into the back of the net for a power-play goal at 1:07.

Noteworthy
• Northeastern earned its fifth straight win and its 10th consecutive victory over Providence.
• The Huskies won their first OT game of the season (1-3-3). NU's last overtime win was also against the Friars on Feb. 6, 2015.
• Lauren Kelly scored her second career game-winning goal (Jan. 29, 2016 vs. UNH).
• McKenna Brand netted her NCAA-leading 23rd goal of the season. No other player in Division-I has reached 20 goals on the season.
• Kasidy Anderson has notched at least one point in six of her last nine games.
