DAYTON, Ohio – Backed by senior point guard
Jess Genco's career high, 31 points, the Northeastern women's basketball team won an overtime thriller in a challenging road environment on Saturday afternoon, defeating Dayton, 84-79, at UD Arena.

Genco played the duration of the 45-minute contest, hitting 11 shots from the field while tracking down 11 rebounds to go with six assists and two steals. The performance – Genco's fourth career double-double and her first to feature the rebounding category – merited the 1,057-point scorer 19th place on the program's all-time scoring list as she passed Kash Cannon (1,053).
Shannon Todd delivered 20 points for Northeastern (3-0), which is off to its second three-game, undefeated start to the regular season under the leadership of fifth-year head coach
Kelly Cole.
Gabby Giacone paired 17 points with 12 rebounds to notch her second double-double of the season, while
Courtney Redcross came through with seven points down the stretch.

The Huskies ran out to the 22-15 lead by the end of the first quarter and kept their seven-point edge going into halftime, closing the first half on a 7-0 scoring run during the quarter's final two minutes.

Kyla Whitehead led Dayton (1-2) with 14 points and 11 rebounds off the bench while Jayla Scaife paced the Flyers' starters with 19 points, nine rebounds and two assists.

NU committed just four turnovers against Dayton's 14 and survived the late stages of the game despite three of its starters fouling out –
Ayanna Dublin, Giacone and
Katie May.
