BROOKLINE, Mass. – Controlling possession during most of Friday's season-opening match at Parsons Field, the Northeastern women's soccer team yielded two unanswered goals from its commanding, 17-9 shot margin as the Huskies shut out Connecticut, 2-0, to begin the 2018 season.

Northeastern (1-0-0) received a pair of goals from
Olivia Ware and
Julianne Ross en route to topping UConn (0-1-0) for the first time since 2011.

With less than five minutes remaining in the first half,
Valentina Soares Gache picked Connecticut's pocket in the midfield before turning and firing a forward pass to Ware, who completed her one-on-one opportunity for her first career goal.

NU continued to apply the pressure after halftime, gaining a 2-0 lead on a set piece during the 71st minute.
Lizzie George provided the corner from the left flag that met Ross' header in the middle of the six-yard box, padding the Huskies' lead.

Nathalie Nidetch remained relatively unchallenged during the match, recording four saves during her first clean sheet of the season.
