Loyola Marymount edges Northeastern on last minute strike

 | Season Stats | Infographic

LOS ANGELES – The Northeastern women's soccer team went toe-to-toe with Loyola Marymount throughout the match on Sunday afternoon on the road in Los Angeles, fighting back from an early deficit to level the score in the opening minute of the second half, but a late strike from the Lions in the 89th minute proved to be the difference as LMU knocked off the Howlin' Huskies, 2-1.

The Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the match thanks to Samantha Jordan's first of the season in the 16th minute, taking a feed from Maki Kono and firing a shot past Northeastern goalkeeper Megan Adams (three saves) to put LMU on top.

Loyola Marymount, which outshot NU 11-6 in the game (5-2 shots on goal) continued to test Adams and the Huskies defense, but Northeastern stood strong to keep the deficit at one entering halftime.

The Huskies came out flying in the second half, quickly bringing the match back to even on Hannah Rosenblatt's first goal of the year, capitalizing on a counter attack to beat LMU keeper Charlee Pruitt (one save) to make it 1-1.

The match stayed that way until the final moments as each team battled in search of the go-ahead goal, but it was the Lions who broke through in the 89th minute when Sarina Bolden buried a counter attack of her own, ripping a shot from the top of the box home for the game-winner.

The Huskies will return to Boston and be back in action on Thursday night when Northeastern hosts Boston University at Parsons Field (6 p.m.).
