TOWSON, Md. – Despite finishing strong and compiling 31 points during the fourth quarter of Friday's CAA game at Towson, the Northeastern women's basketball team was unable to chase down the comeback victory against the Tigers as the Huskies experienced their first loss of the conference season, 88-83, at SECU Arena.

Jess Genco paced Northeastern (12-2, 2-1 CAA) with 28 points, knocking down 10 shots from the field, including three of the team's eight 3-point baskets. The NU senior shared the team's rebounding lead at eight (Stella Clark) while registering four assists and two steals.

Shannon Todd ended the night one point shy of her season scoring high, notching 19 points, three rebounds and four assists. Clark added 17 points off the bench while Aynna Dublin finished with nine points and six boards.

Towson (9-5, 3-0 CAA) benefitted from last-second 3-pointers during the first and second quarters that helped shape the Tigers' 39-31 halftime lead. Nukiya Mayo scored 12 of her game high, 30 points, during the first half, where Towson combined to shoot 62 percent from the field.

Despite sporting the +14 rebounding margin, Northeastern had trouble slowing the Tigers' transition game, surrendering the 15-0 edge in fast break points. Qierra Murray and Kionna Jeter helped keep Towson in front throughout the second half, posting 21 and 20 points, respectively.

NU faced as high as a 13-point deficit at the 8:48 mark of the third quarter but came roaring back, staging the 9-1 scoring run to create a five-point game at 45-40, midway through the period. Although the Huskies would continue to knock on the door during the remainder of the second half, the Tigers routinely denied Northeastern looks at chipping away any closer.
