PROVIDENCE, R.I.— The No. 3 Northeastern women's hockey team suffered its first setback of the season against Hockey East opponent Providence, 1-0, on Friday night at Schneider Arena.
Aerin Frankel turned in a solid performance between the pipes and finished with 19 saves.
Skylar Fontaine led the Huskies with nine shots on the evening, while
Alina Mueller was second with four shots.
Despite Northeastern (5-1-0, 2-1-0) leading in total shots, 33-20, Providence (3-2-2, 1-0-0) was able to sneak in a goal in the second period to claim the victory. The Friar goal was by Hayley Lunny at the 3:18 mark of the second period. Providence's goaltender Clare Minnerath finished with 33 saves in her shutout victory.
The Huskies killed off two Providence power plays, and Northeastern is still a perfect 10/10 on the penalty kill in conference games this season.
