BOSTON – Receiving near double-double performances by
Athena Ardila and
Samantha Shupe on Friday, the Northeastern women's volleyball team gave CAA-undefeated Towson a first-set scare, despite the Huskies succumbing to the Tigers in straight sets at Cabot Center (28-26, 25-19, 25-15).
Ardila paired the team high, 12 kills, with nine digs for Northeastern (10-11, 4-5 CAA), which played within an eight-kill margin of the first-place visitors (46-38). Shupe notched 33 assists, eight digs and an ace while
Evelyn Gonzalez co-led the Huskies in digs (10) alongside senior libero
Clare Lund, who served two aces.

Northeastern came out blazing during the opening set, blistering six kills during its first seven attacks to stake the 6-3 lead, which NU extended to 11-7.
Nailah Jenkins recorded six of her seven kills during the first set, earning three during the Huskies' late, 7-1 run that knotted the score at 23-23.

Shupe set Gonzalez for the go-ahead kill at 25-24, presenting Northeastern with its first set point of the season against Towson (19-2, 9-0 CAA), but the Tigers won four of the next five points to steal the 28-26 victory.

Despite NU collectively hitting .286 during the first set against Towson's .250 mark, the Tigers' net game returned to form during the second and third sets. Towson combined to swing 30 kills against six attack errors across the final two sets while the Huskies managed to yield 21 kills against 13 attack errors.

Lydia Wiers paced the Tigers with 13 kills and four blocks while Emily Jarome totaled eight kills, 11 digs and three blocks. Annie Ertz served three aces to go along with her 11 kills.
