No. 10 Huskies suffer loss at home

BOSTON – Despite goals from three different Huskies, the No. 10 Northeastern men's hockey team (4-2-1, 1-1-0 Hockey East) suffered its first home loss of the season, falling 6-3 to No. 3 Massachusetts (5-1-0, 1-1-0 Hockey East) at Matthews Arena on Friday night.

The first period fell in favor of the Huskies, with Northeastern taking an early 2-0 lead just six minutes into the contest. First to strike for the Huskies was fifth-year Brendan van Riemsdyk, who tallied his first goal in the Red and Black off a power-play opportunity. Just minutes after, Grant Jozefek knocked in his second of the year, finding the assists from Biagio Lerario and Jordan Harris. A late period goal from UMass cut the lead in half, sending Northeastern to the locker room with the one-goal advantage.

Momentum changed in the second period, as the Minutemen evened the playing field before taking a 5-2 lead by the end of the frame. As the teams moved into the final twenty, freshman TJ Walsh cut UMass' lead in half, scoring his first collegiate goal off looks from van Riemsdyk and Harris. But, with a late-game goal, the Minutemen secured the win and dealt the Huskies their first conference loss of the season.
