Ward's two-goal third period caps 6-0 win for No. 4 NU

BOSTON – Tessa Ward's two third-period goals capped a well-rounded performance by the No. 4 Northeastern women's hockey team on Friday afternoon as the Huskies shut out Holy Cross, 6-0, at Matthews Arena.

Ward's two lamp-lighters – which comprised the junior's first career multi-goal game – followed Alina Mueller's three-point contribution during the opening two periods. Chloe Aurard and Skylar Fontaine both chalked two-point games for NU while Jess Schryver also ended the day in the scoring column.

Northeastern (8-1-0, 5-1-0 HEAW) dominated puck possession and tempo, racking up the 55-16 advantage in shots on goal. Aerin Frankel denied Holy Cross (0-9-3, 0-6-0 HEAW) through the entirety of the contest, earning her 12th career shutout while moving her into a tie for fourth place on the Huskies' career leaderboard.

After Mueller had opened the game's scoring with her one-timer near the midway point of the first period, the NU sophomore assisted on Skylar Fontaine's blue-line bullet that cushioned the Huskies' lead to 2-0. Mia Brown collected her third assist of the season on the play, controlling the puck behind the net before playing around the boards to Mueller.

Veronika Pettey led the Northeastern breakaway and tic-tac-toe passing that resulted in the Huskies' third goal of the day early during the second period. Matt Hartman centered Pettey's right-to-left pass to Schryver, who recorded her second goal of the year.

Aurard upped Northeastern's lead to 4-0 inside the final minute of the second period, preluding Ward's two-goal final act.

With the win, Dave Flint notched his 210th career head coaching victory at Northeastern, tying the program record.
