BOSTON – Despite a second period offensive explosion, the No. 8 Northeastern men's hockey team (10-5-2, 6-4-1 Hockey East) fell 6-3 to crosstown rival Boston University (6-6-5, 4-3-4 Hockey East) in a Saturday night conference clash.
Three different Huskies—
Zach Solow,
John Picking and
Aidan McDonough—found the back of the net in tonight's contest. Leading Northeastern's second period scoring campaign, Solow opened up the Huskies' goal scoring efforts with a tip-in goal off the look from line mate
Matt Filipe. Just 12 seconds after, Picking followed up with a goal of his own, firing the puck from the doorstep to give Northeastern a 2-1 lead.
With the contest tied at 2-2 following a BU retaliation goal, freshman McDonough picked up his fifth goal of the season on the extra-man opportunity to lock up the Huskies at 3-3 with the Terriers. Each of McDonough's goals this season have come on the power play, and with his goal tonight, the Milton, Mass. native now leads the Huskies in power-play tallies.
Despite the Huskies' midgame offensive pressure, however, four unanswered Terrier goals ultimately secured the conference win for BU.
Through sixty minutes, the Huskies' penalty kill unit remained flawless, keeping BU out of the net on the extra-man chances.
