Potent NUFH offense strikes against Merrimack 7-0

Julia Gluyas and Erin Savage combined for the team’s second shutout of the season

DEDHAM, Mass.  –  Securing their second shutout of the season, the Northeastern field hockey team claimed an impressive 7-0 victory over Merrimack on Wednesday night at Dedham Field. Lauren Rowe led the squad with three goals, recording her second hat trick of the season.

Julia Gluyas and Erin Savage each played a half combining for the shutout, Savage finished with three saves, her first career stops, while Gluyas picked up one and is a pair away from 200 career rejections.
The Huskies were first to strike in Wednesday night's bout, with Alli Meehan redirecting a pass from Lexie Dunleavy to get Northeastern on the board early. Shortly thereafter, Rowe added another tally to the Huskies' score in the seventh minute off a look from junior Camille O'Conor

Opening the second quarter, Rowe fired in her second shot of the night from the top of the arch to give the Huskies the 3-0 lead.

Rowe capped off her hat trick with a penalty stroke just minutes into the second half. Kasidy Anderson kept momentum going for the Huskies, putting back her own shot in the 39th minute to give Northeastern a 5-0 margin heading into the final frame.

Connecting off the give-and-go from senior Megan Barrett, Lauren Brewster netted the Huskies' sixth goal of the evening  off a corner in the 52nd minute to extend the Northeastern advantage. Forward Kelsie Stephenson ultimately secured the win off an unassisted shot just in front of the netminder in the final minutes of play.

The Huskies are back in action this weekend with a pair of road games at No. 23 Fairfield on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. followed by a trip to No. 21 Wake Forest on Sunday at 1 p.m.
