BROOKLINE, Mass.— The Northeastern women's soccer team used five different goal scorers on six goals to power past the Towson Tigers, 6-0, to earn the win in its CAA opener. The Huskies tied a program record for most goals scored in a game with six, five of which came in the first half.
The Huskies (4-6-0, 1-0-0 CAA) poured in five goals in the first half and held Towson (3-6-1, 0-1-0 CAA) to six shots. Just three minutes into the game,
Tatiana Ortega scored her first of two goal and the first goal of her career from right outside of the six-yard box off a
Mikenna McManus cross.
Four minutes later
Olivia Ware dove into the air to get a head on a cross from
Julianne Ross to put the Huskies up 2-0. For her second goal of the day, Ortega corralled a loose ball off a header from a Towson player and lofted it into goal in the ninth minute.
Chelsea Domond's fourth goal of the season and the Huskies' fourth goal of the game came as McManus put in a cross that was tapped by
Kerri Zerfoss to Domond's feet, who struck it to the lower right-hand side of goal. McManus wrapped up the first half scoring, nabbing her first career goal as she tracked down a rebound off a save from the Towson keeper and slipped it past the keeper on the lower left-hand side of the goal.
In the 90th minute,
Nina Dooley sent the Huskies off in style scoring her second goal of the season.
Katarina Nilsson fired one on goal that was saved by Towson and N. Dooley pounced on the rebound to put the final score at 6-0.
Megan Adams had a career-high six saves on the night, to earn her third win of the season, seeing 90 minutes of action. The Huskies finished with a season-high 26 shots and 15 shots on goal.
