Men’s soccer falls at UNCW, 3-1

WILMINGTON, N.C.— The Northeastern men's soccer team dropped its first match after a six-game unbeaten stretch, as the UNCW Seahawks defeated the Huskies, 3-1.  
 
Northeastern (5-3-1, 2-1-1 CAA) entered halftime down 1-0 to UNCW (4-3-1, 2-0-1 CAA). Phillip Goodrum fired one into goal in the 28th minute for UNCW as the Seahawks started with the ball on the right side of the field and quickly crossed it to Goodrum on the left side, he chested it down and slotted it into the lower right-hand side.
 
Goalkeeper Chandler Cree had two saves in the first half, and several other solid plays for the Huskies. Cree ended the match with four saves.
 
UNCW extended its lead to 2-0 after Gabriel Cabral scored in the 82nd minute. Cabral gathered a rebound of a shot that had hit of the post to find the back of the net.
 
Timothy Ennin was taken down in the UNCW box in the 89th minute and the Seahawks were whistled for a foul. Ennin stepped up to take the penalty kick and scored his second of the season from the penalty spot, to cut the score to 2-1.
 
In the 90th minute, Omar Da Naia was issued a yellow card for a foul just outside the box that set up a UNCW free kick. Danny Reynold's took the kick for the Seahawks and scored to push the final score to 3-1.

The Huskies return back to Parsons Field to host Hartford in nonconference action on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m.
