DURHAM, N.H. – Despite a pair of three-point performances from
Grant Jozefek and
Jayden Struble, the No. 11 Northeastern men's hockey team (13-6-2, 7-5-1 Hockey East) fell 5-4 in overtime to the New Hampshire Wildcats (11-8-1, 5-5-0 Hockey East) tonight on the road.
Â
UNH took control of the contest early, knocking in a goal on the doorstep at 17:11 in the first to take a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. A goal from Jozefek nearly midway through the second period briefly slowed the Wildcats' momentum, but Northeastern penalty trouble gave UNH the go-ahead to regain speed, posting two goals to close out the second 20 with a 3-1 advantage.
Â
A late offensive push from Northeastern changed the tone for the Huskies, however, with
Tyler Madden and Struble locking up the teams at 3-3 with a pair of goals early in the final frame. A UNH goal at 7:11 briefly flipped momentum back to the Wildcats, but a well-timed shot from
Matt Filipe on the doorstep less than a minute later forced the tie once more.
Â
Ending regulation tied at 4-4, the two teams headed to overtime, where UNH scored a goal at 2:28 to claim the 5-4 victory.
