BOSTON – Late goals from
Matt Filipe and
Zach Solow lifted the No. 11 Northeastern men's hockey team (13-5-2, 7-4-1 Hockey East) to a 4-2 victory over the Bentley Falcons (8-11-1, 6-9-0 Atlantic Hockey) on Monday night at Matthews Arena.
Â
After a first period power-play goal from
Aidan McDonough had given the Huskies the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission, the teams shared a scoreless second period. Hoping to break through Northeastern's early lead, the Falcons took the shot advantage through the second frame, putting up 11 shots to the Huskies' four.
Â
Bentley's offensive pressure eventually cracked the Northeastern lead, tying the teams at 1-1 two minutes into the final frame. Shortly thereafter, a one-timer from
Tyler Madden gave Northeastern a 2-1 margin before the Falcons earned one back to lock the teams up once more. As the minutes wound down, a game-winning wrist shot from Filipe with 1:44 left on the clock broke the 2-2 deadlock, giving Solow momentum to fire in one last shot less than 30 seconds after to secure the 4-2 victory for the Huskies.Â
Â
Between the pipes,
Craig Pantano continued to be a defensive stalwart for the Huskies, stopping 26 shots on the night.
