BOSTON – Combining to achieve a 12-4 match record last week, the Northeastern esports program kicked off October by making waves across a number of competitions.

No. 2 HEARTHSTONE  //  11-5 overall
Northeastern won six of its eight matches across three competitions last week, jumping from No. 3 to No. 2 in the Oct. 13 reveal of the College Hearthstone Observer national rankings.

For the second straight week, the Huskies played to a hard-fought, 3-2 defeat within the Tespa Varsity Division as Northeastern was unable to navigate past Arcadia (Oct. 6). NU enters Swiss round three seeded outside the top 30 yet is still within range of qualifying for the 16-team playoffs.

Entering Swiss round six, Northeastern had been seeded 13th in the field of more than 130 programs before elevating its position upon defeating the amateur side, Poutine (Oct. 12). NU remains in strong contention to qualify for the 32-team regional playoffs.

Northeastern picked up two national top-five wins at the Akron Esports Hearthstone Invitational, where the Huskies advanced to the semifinals. NU defeated its rival, No. 2 RIT (3-0), during Saturday's Group B bracket opener and proceeded to take out No. 5 Penn State (3-0) during Sunday's quarterfinals.
