BOSTON – Racking up undefeated weeks in two titles, the Northeastern esports program combined to yield 12 victories across 15 matches last week as the Huskies continued their trophy hunt through the heart of October.
Â
No. 2 HEARTHSTONEÂ //Â 16-6 overall
Achieving its first undefeated week of the 2020-21 season (four-for-four), Northeastern held steady at No. 2 in the Oct. 26 reveal of the
College Hearthstone Observer national rankings.
Â
Battling back from their 0-2 start in the Tespa Varsity Division, the Huskies evened their tournament record at 2-2 upon defeating Ashland in five games on Oct. 20. Entering Swiss round five, NU – the defending Varsity Division champion – is seeded 19th in the field, three positions shy of qualifying for the event's 16-team playoff.
Â
Northeastern completed the opening split of the Tespa Open Division with a 6-2 record after notching its fourth ranked victory of the season: a five-game takedown of No. 12 Waterloo (Oct. 19). The Huskies wrapped up Swiss play in eighth place, earning placement into the 32-team East region playoffs.
Â
Transitioning into the second split of the Tespa Open Division, Northeastern added on to its winning streak by posting season-opening victories against Misericordia and Robert Morris. Through two rounds of Swiss play, NU is one of 18 unbeaten teams and is seeded evenly in second place despite tiebreakers.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDSÂ //Â Â 8-1 overall
Entering last week undefeated in all competitions, Northeastern pushed its season-opening winning streak to eight consecutive matches before experiencing its first defeat of the 2020-21 campaign.
Â
Preserving their perfect mark in the Upsurge Contenders League, the Huskies breezed past Oregon State to improve their Cloud region record to 5-0. NU has already clinched a berth into the 16-team knockout stage and will oppose the lone remaining unbeaten team in the Cloud region on Thursday when the Huskies battle the amateur club, mAAd city.
Â
After championing the winner's bracket in the Esports Collegiate (ESC) region qualifier for the College League of Legends Fall Invitational, the top-seeded Huskies witnessed their eight-match winning streak end on Saturday against second-seeded Buffalo. The bracket's winner-take-all finale was reformatted as a scrimmage after both programs had learned their placement into the 32-team invitational field was secure.
Â
With its invitational ticket punched, Northeastern received the No. 12 national seed in the main draw, where the Huskies are pitted against 21st-seeded UT Arlington on Oct. 27. Should NU advance, the Huskies would oppose the winner between fifth-seeded Lourdes and 28th-seeded Illinois Tech.

ROCKET LEAGUEÂ //Â Â 16-9 overall
Bouncing between events last week, Northeastern racked up four victories from six matches across all competitions.
Â
Pitted on Friday against the top two teams in the Collegiate Rocket League (CRL) Eastern Conference, the Huskies were unable to tarnish the undefeated marks of Northwood and Akron, settling for a pair of 3-0 defeats. NU continues to chase its first match victory during CRL league play and will look to do so in front of national Twitch audiences on Tuesday against Florida Poly (viaÂ
RocketLeague) and on Thursday against Kennesaw State (viaÂ
CollegeCarball).
Â
With its foot on the gas in the NACE Rocket League Fall Cup, Northeastern closed its Group L schedule with back-to-back victories against Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and Lebanon Valley. NU has yet to drop a Fall Cup result in which it has competed (six-for-six) and sits in a tie atop the Group L standings with its officially credited 6-2 record (12 points).
Â
Northeastern also squeezed in two victories against Cincinnati on Thursday during PlayVS match play.
