BOSTON – As September turns to October, Northeastern esports action is heating up in all titles, headlined by the Huskies' upcoming debut in the Collegiate Rocket League (CRL) Eastern Conference.

HEARTHSTONE  //  5-3 overall
Ranked No. 3 nationally by College Hearthstone Observer on Sept. 28, Northeastern split results across its two Tespa Collegiate Championship matches last week.

The Huskies began their fall 2020 Varsity Division campaign on Tuesday against No. 2 RIT, which NU had defeated to win the spring/summer 2020 title. Despite staking a 2-1 lead during the national championship rematch, the Huskies succumbed to the Tigers twice during the final two games – conceding the Swiss round one match, 3-2.

After defeating Belmont on Thursday during its return to Open Division action, Northeastern now heads into Swiss round four chasing 18 unbeaten programs as it seeks qualification into the 32-team regional playoffs.

The Huskies will step aside from Tespa Collegiate Championship competition on Saturday, Oct. 10, when NU enters into the 16-team field during the two-day Akron Esports Hearthstone Invitational (hosted by Akron). Northeastern will be pitted against Arcadia, Kent State and RIT in the double-elimination Group B bracket as the Huskies look to progress to the eight-team, single-elimination knockout stage.
