Northeastern achieves record for NCAA Graduation Success Rate

INDIANAPOLIS – Demonstrating a continued commitment to academic achievement, Northeastern student-athletes have collectively set a program record for NCAA Division I Graduation Success Rate (GSR), as revealed on Tuesday during the body's annual data report.

As a department, Northeastern received its highest GSR score to date – 94 percent – reflecting the academic progress of student-athletes who began degree programs during 2013. The Huskies' latest GSR score not only ranks four percentage points above the national average, but also signifies the seventh consecutive year during which NU has scored at or above 90 percent.

In addition to its record cumulative score, seven Northeastern varsity programs celebrated perfect team GSR scores: men's cross country, women's cross country, women's hockey, men's soccer, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, and volleyball.

Within the CAA, Northeastern posted the third highest department GSR score, trailing two schools that honor football in Elon (97 percent) and William & Mary (95 percent). Among national non-football schools, the Huskies ranked inside the country's top 25 programs.

GSR was established by the NCAA Division I Board of Directors in 2002 to present Division I college and university presidents with data that more accurately depicted the mobility of student-athletes beyond the scope of the federal graduation rate. Contrary to the latter, GSR scores take into account transfer students who enter programs or depart them in good academic standing.

Northeastern's dedication to academic success was portrayed most recently through the department's collective 3.605 GPA during the spring 2020 semester – another school record.
