BOSTON – Despite October ending last week with snowfall, the Northeastern esports program was red-hot in competition as the Huskies' four varsity titles combined to swing a 12-4 match record and make postseason moves.
Â
No. 2 HEARTHSTONEÂ //Â 22-8Â overall
Ranked No. 2 nationally by
College Hearthstone Observer on Oct. 26, Northeastern posted a 7-2 record during its latest week of competition. The Huskies attained as high as a seven-match winning streak before experiencing their first defeat of the Tespa Open Division – Split 1 East regional playoffs, where NU compiled a 4-2 mark.
Â
Northeastern won its third consecutive match in the Tespa Varsity Division upon defeating Syracuse last Tuesday. Rallying from their 0-2 tournament start, the Huskies – now 3-2 – have since vaulted into postseason contention, occupying the 16th and final playoff position with one Swiss match left to play.
Â
After posting a 6-2 Swiss record during the first split of the Tespa Open Division, Northeastern entered the double-elimination regional playoffs as the No. 8 seed.
Â
The Huskies advanced as far as the second round in the winners bracket before sporting three victories inside the elimination ladder, including a 3-0 result against No. 14 Buffalo. Upon exiting the event by its five-game loss to No. 12 Waterloo, NU was two wins shy of qualifying among the four East representatives to advance to the division's eight-team championship bracket.
Â
In the second split of the Tespa Open Division, Northeastern polished a pair of 3-0 victories against Robert Morris and Delaware to remain among the 16 undefeated teams in the field.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDSÂ //Â 10-2 overall
Facing its most demanding set of opponents to date this season, Northeastern sandwiched two wins in the College League of Legends Fall Invitational around a competitive performance in the Upsurge Contenders League.
Â
Earning the No. 12 seed in the 32-team Fall Invitational bracket (as hosted by PlayVS), the Huskies opened their postseason run on Tuesday with their 2-0 victory against 21st-seeded UT Arlington. Opposing 28th-seeded Illinois Tech during Saturday's second round, NU came through with another two-map sweep, reserving its spot in the quarterfinals on Nov. 3 against 13th-seeded Purdue.
Â
In a matchup between the final two undefeated teams inside the Cloud region of the Upsurge Contenders League (UCL), Northeastern played to the hard-fought, 2-1 defeat against the amateur side, mAAd city. The Huskies took control of the match by winning the opening map, but conceded the final two to drop their record to 5-1 in the group standings.
Â
