BOSTON – With each of its four titles flaunting season winning percentages above .600, the Northeastern esports program heads into Thanksgiving weekend having proudly lived up to its potential during its inaugural varsity campaign. No. 5 HEARTHSTONE // 27-14 overall // Schedule & Results

Tespa Varsity Division: Defending its spring/summer 2020 championship, Northeastern posted a 3-3 record during the fall season, narrowly missing the 16-team series playoffs. The Huskies battled back from their season-opening, five-game loss to No. 2 RIT to win three of their next four matches but were denied a look at the postseason by No. 8 Utah during the final round of Swiss play. NU finished the competition in 19th place – three positions shy of the series playoffs.

Tespa Open Division – Split 1 East: Northeastern cruised to a 6-2 record during Swiss play, earning the No. 8 seed in the regional playoffs. After experiencing an early setback into the elimination ladder, the Huskies rallied to win three elimination matches (including victory against No. 14 Buffalo), but exited among the final eight teams in the East – two rounds shy of reaching the championship bracket.

Tespa Open Division – Split 2 East: Rushing out to three straight season-opening victories, Northeastern finished Swiss play with a 5-3 record, earning the No. 23 seed in the regional playoffs. Opening the postseason with a five-game takedown of No. 1 RIT, the Huskies advanced as far as the winners quarterfinals before being relegated to the elimination ladder. There, NU knocked off No. 19 Carleton but could not escape No. 6 Akron, finishing among the final eight teams in the East – two rounds shy of reaching the championship bracket.
• Northeastern also reached the semifinals of the Knights Invitational in September (hosted by Arcadia University) and the semifinals of the Akron Esports Hearthstone Invitational in October.
• The Huskies ranked among the top five programs nationally per
College Hearthstone Observer throughout the fall season, peaking at No. 2 (Oct. 13, Oct. 26); Northeastern ranked No. 1 nationally (July 22) following its spring/summer 2020 Tespa Varsity Division championship. NU tallied eight wins against nationally ranked programs across 13 matches.

College League of Legends Fall Invitational:Â Northeastern flexed its No. 1 seed in the Esports Collegiate qualifying region, breezing by Central Michigan, Kent State and Buffalo on its way to the region's championship round. Earning the No. 12 seed in the national invitational, the Huskies roared past UT Arlington and Illinois Tech on their way into the quarterfinals, where NU lost a competitive three-map match against Purdue.

Upsurge Contenders League: Rattling off five consecutive Cloud region wins, Northeastern locked up an early berth into the knockout stage. The Huskies ended group play with a 5-2 record – tied for second place in the Cloud region with Miami (Ohio). Recalibrating its momentum, NU swept Aqualix Esports in two games during the round of 16, setting up their league quarterfinal match against North Carolina State.
• Northeastern began the regular season with eight consecutive victories across all competitions, winning 16 of the 18 maps in which it competed during the stretch.

OVERWATCH // 15-4 overall // Schedule & Results

Tespa Overwatch Collegiate Varsity Series:Â Winning 10 of its 14 maps played against its Group D opponents, Northeastern notched a 5-2 record to advance out of group play and qualify for the 20-team playoff that will begin on Saturday, Dec 5. NU had received automatic placement into the 32-team Varsity Series field based on program prestige.

Tespa Overwatch Collegiate Championship – Preseason Split 2: With its Varsity Series postseason ticket punched in October, Northeastern used November to roar through the second preseason split of the title's collegiate championship. The Huskies remained undefeated during Swiss play (6-0), including a 2-1 victory against No. 8 North Texas – the team's first ranked victory as a varsity program. During the postseason, NU defeated North Florida and Iowa State to advance into the round of 16, where the Huskies will meet No. 3 Northwood on Sunday, Dec. 6.
• Northeastern began its fall season by advancing to the round of 16 in the Harrisburg University Esports Invitational.
• The Huskies received votes in two
eFuse Collegiate Esports Rankings coaches' polls this fall for Overwatch (Oct. 6, Oct. 13).
• As of Nov. 25, NU continues to ride their active 11-match winning streak – the team's longest varsity streak to date.
ROCKET LEAGUE // 29-16 overall // Schedule & Results

Collegiate Rocket League (CRL) National Championship:Â Northeastern staged a masterful performance during the second Open Qualifier for CRL league play (Sept. 27), boasting a 6-0 record to clinch one of two bids from a field of nearly 100 teams. Pitted against the nation's elite collegiate programs in the CRL Eastern Conference (opposite the CRL Western Conference), the Huskies compiled a 5-10 league record, during which NU contested four matches against opponents ranked among the top 10 nationally by
eFuse. The Huskies won their four-way tiebreaker for 10th place in the CRL Eastern Conference standings – four positions behind qualifying for the 12-team CRL championship bracket.
• As of Nov. 13, synthex (
Ollie Regan) had led Northeastern in CRL goals scored (41) while Floms (
Flo Astié) and jfraser (
Justin Fraser) had netted 39 and 27 goals, respectively. At the time, synthex ranked sixth leaguewide and ninth overall in tournament saves per game (1.76) while Floms ranked ninth among Eastern Conference players in shot percentage (33.62 percent).

NACE Rocket League Fall Cup: Northeastern turned in a perfect record during Group L matches in which it competed (6-0), earning placement into the knockout stage. There, the Huskies were bumped from the postseason during the first round by No. 2 Northwood.

PlayVS Conference Matches: Between marquee competitions, Northeastern has compiled an 8-1 record on the PlayVS conference circuit. On Nov. 16, the Huskies won a five-games series against No. 7 Stockton – the team's first ranked victory as a varsity program.
• Northeastern also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Maui Esports Invitational qualifying bracket (Nov. 12) and will resume qualifying for the UGC Battle Academy Collegiate Rocket League Tournament during the event's third trial on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
