Bolden Brace tallied a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds to lead Northeastern (12-13, 6-7 CAA) past UNCW (8-19, 3-11 CAA), 71-63, on Thursday night inside Matthews Arena. With the win, head coach
Bill Coen moves into a tie for second all-time in CAA history with 158 career league wins.
Maxime Boursiquot finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, while
Shaquille Walters added 10 points to highlight four NU players in double figures. The Huskies led for the entire 40 minutes, grabbing a game-high 18-point lead with just over 16 minutes left in the game.
Northeastern began the game on a 10-0 run as UNCW missed its first seven shots from the floor. The Huskies continued to build on their lead and led by 14 points late in the first half. NU led by double digits for almost the entire game as the Seahawks got within eight with 24 seconds left.
Despite shooting 14 percent (2-for-14) from behind the arc, the Huskies made 61 percent (22-for-36) from inside the arc and outscored UNCW 38-16 inside the paint. NU improves to 12-4 this season when shooting better than its opponent, 48 percent to 39 percent tonight.
Marten Linssen scored 20 points off the bench for UNCW, while Jaylen Sims added 17 off the bench. The last player in double figures for the Seahawks was Brian Tolefree with 13.
