Knoll sends No. 3 Huskies past Providence, 4-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I.— Katy Knoll potted two goals, including the game-winner, to send the No. 3 Northeastern women's hockey team past the Providence Friars, 4-1, on Saturday evening at Schneider Arena.

The Huskies fell behind, 1-0, early in the first with Sara Hjalmarsson scoring Providence's (16-12-4, 13-10-2 HEAW) lone goal just over four minutes into the game. Northeastern (26-4-2, 22-3-0 HEAW) would rebound with two, two-goal periods in the second and the third to secure the come-from-behind victory.

Alina Mueller got the scoring started with her 21st of the season, and tied the game up at 1-1. Knoll then notched the game-winner in the second and an empty netter in the third to ice the game for the Huskies. Lauren MacInnis slotted home the Huskies third goal of the evening in-between Knoll's two goals.

Goaltender Gwyneth Philips made her fifth start in goal and recorded her fifth win after posting 22 saves. Providence's goaltender Sandra Abstreiter recorded 28 saves in the loss.

With the win today and results around the league, the Huskies will host the Vermont Catamounts in the Hockey East quarterfinals at Matthews Arena, beginning Feb. 27.
