Kyle Murphy and
Sam Jacobsak each earned wins on the mound to lead Northeastern (2-3) to a doubleheader sweep over South Florida, 10-0 and 2-0, on Saturday at USF Baseball Stadium. NU's pitching staff allowed just six hits over 18 innings.
Murphy (1-1) allowed just one hit over 5.0 scoreless innings, striking out eight, and
Brian Rodriguez earned his first save of the season, throwing 4.0 scoreless innings and gave up three hits.
Jared Dupere went 3-for-5 in game one with a double, while
Ian Fair and
Corey DiLoreto each had two hits and Fair drove in one run.
In the nightcap, Jacobsak (1-1) threw 8.0 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and struck out seven. RHP closer
Brandon Dufault earned his first save of the season, throwing the final inning, striking out two batters.
Offensively in game two,
Scott Holzwasser and Fair each drove in runs for the Huskies. DiLoreto went 2-for-4, while
Ed Jarvis and Dupere scored the only two runs.
The Huskies earn their first series win of the season and will go for the sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m. Freshman RHP
Sebastian Keane will get the start on the mound for Northeastern.
