HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Led by junior
Stella Clark's four 3-point jumpers and sophomore
Alexis Hill's 18 points on Saturday afternoon, the Northeastern women's basketball team closed the 2019-20 regular season by defeating Hofstra, 62-54, at the David S. Mack Sports & Exhibition Complex.
Clark played nearly the entirety of the game for the Huskies, logging 12 points, four rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Hill came one rebound away from notching her sixth double-double of the season while
Shannon Todd and
Katie May recorded 13 and nine points, respectively, both bagging multiple triples.
Considering its win and Towson's defeat on Saturday, Northeastern (13-16, 9-9 CAA) tied its program record for best CAA regular season finish (fourth place) for the second time during the last three seasons. The Huskies had entered the day locked into the No. 5 seed in the 2020 CAA tournament, which will take place from March 11 to March 14 at Elon's Schar Center in Elon, North Carolina.
Northeastern opened the game shooting six-for-seven from downtown and shot 56 percent during the first half en route to building the 39-27 halftime advantage.
Despite Hofstra (3-26, 0-18 CAA) sliding within one possession twice during the third quarter, NU never relinquished its lead. The Huskies' defense limited the Pride to one field goal during the first six and a half minutes of the fourth quarter while Clark's clutch 3-pointer with 2:55 to go in regulation put Northeastern back on top by double digits at 59-48.
Sandra Karsten paced Hofstra with 14 points, accounting for four of the team's six 3-point makes. JaKayla Brown added 13 points while Jaylen Hines paired eight points with 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals.
