Meet the 2020-21 Northeastern Hearthstone team

BOSTON – Returning three student-athletes from its spring/summer 2020 Tespa Hearthstone Collegiate Varsity Division national championship team, the Northeastern esports program revealed on Wednesday the third of its four inaugural varsity rosters as the title's fall 2020 seasons commence.

The Huskies' national championship trio of senior Justin Adams, junior Jason Enright and senior Darian Saracevic will unite with sophomore Ben Pomeroy as NU looks to defend its Varsity Division title and improve on its national runner-up finish in the Open Division.

TESPA HEARTHSTONE COLLEGIATE VARSITY DIVISION  |  Sept. 25 – Nov. 15
Reserved for a premier field of up to 128 programs, the Tespa Hearthstone Collegiate Varsity Division starts with a seven-round, Swiss-style regular season. Upon its completion, the top 16 teams will be seeded into a double-elimination bracket that plays down to four programs, which will enter the single-elimination tournament finals. All matches are scored as best-of-five games.

Details regarding Northeastern's Varsity Division regular season schedule are yet to be released.

TESPA HEARTHSTONE COLLEGIATE OPEN DIVISION  |  Split 1:  Sept. 21 – Oct. 24  |  Split 2:  TBD
Featuring a more general classification of up to 256 teams, the Tespa Hearthstone Collegiate Open Division will feature two splits during the fall 2020 season – one running from September to October and another running from November to December. During each split, teams will be sorted into two regions (East and West), within which they will contest nine-round, Swiss-style regular seasons. From there, the top 32 teams in each region will be seeded into the double-elimination regional playoffs that produce four finalists (eight total) for the single-elimination championship round. All matches are scored as best-of-five games.

Northeastern began its fall 2020 Open Division - Split 1 East campaign on Monday with a 3-0 victory against Buffalo. The Huskies will be pitted against their sibling program, Northeastern Red, during their next regular season match on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m.
