Huskies break away from Manhattan late for 62-50 win

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Senior point guard Stella Clark racked up 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists on Tuesday as the Northeastern women's basketball team distanced itself from Manhattan during the fourth quarter, earning the 62-50 win at Draddy Gymnasium.

Clark played the duration of the ballgame for the third time this season, shooting 5-for-9 from the field, 5-for-6 from the line and hitting two 3-pointers. Mide Oriyomi registered her second double-double of the year behind Clark's lead, pairing 14 points with 17 rebounds and two steals.

Ayanna Dublin set a season scoring high with 11 points, accounting for six straight NU points during the fourth quarter that pushed the Huskies' lead to 46-40 with 6:45 remaining in regulation.

Northeastern (2-5) achieved a season rebounding high while sporting the 46-28 advantage on the glass, limiting Manhattan (5-6) to three second chance points. Leyla Öztürk helped the Huskies' interior defense, collecting five rebounds while blocking three shots.

After surrendering the game's opening basket, Northeastern spurred a 13-3 run to set the early pace. Despite allowing Manhattan to knot the game at 13-13 by the quarter break, the Huskies weathered six first half lead changes, receiving a late 3-pointer from Clark to tie the game at 26-26 before the half.

With Clark scoring on back-to-back possessions down the stretch in the third quarter, Northeastern carried the 38-36 lead into the final stanza. Dublin's fourth quarter scoring spurt provided NU with the separation it needed to reach the finish line while the Huskies collectively closed hitting nine of their final 10 free throws to seal the win.

Dee Dee Davis led Manhattan with 19 points, sinking five 3-pointers and securing seven rebounds.

With the victory, Northeastern head coach Kelly Cole moved into sole possession of third place on the Huskies' all-time head coaching wins list (82).
