HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Sophomore forward
Rose Kaefer scored in the first half and junior goalkeeper
Angeline Friel stopped seven shots to lead Northeastern women's soccer (6-6-1, 3-2-0 CAA) over Hofstra (12-2-0, 4-1-0 CAA) in a 1-0 victory at Hofstra Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.
The win broke Hofstra's streak of 24 unbeaten home matches, the longest in the nation, stretching all the way back to October 4, 2018; that loss also came by way of the Huskies, 1-0.
- Kaefer's first-half strike came in the 26th minute and was her second of the season and second in as many games. She was assisted by junior midfielder Alexis Legowski (3).
- The win was Friel's seventh career shutout and the Huskies' third straight shutout. They have seven on the season.
- Junior defender Jane Kaull also showed heroics on defense by clearing a loose ball off the goal line after it had broken through the defense in the 79th minute.
- The Huskies were outshot 23-9 but hunkered down defensively and kept the Pride out of the net.
- Legowski and Kaefer both provided the offensive firepower needed, as they had four and three shots, respectively, to lead the team.
- The Huskies shut out Hofstra for the first time all season and for the first time since Elon did so in the CAA Semifinal last season.
- This is the first time the Huskies have beaten a United Soccer Coaches' Top 25 team since at least 2008.
After winning this CAA matchup, the Huskies will stay in conference play and return home to take on Elon on Sunday, October 17 at Parsons Field at 1 p.m. Catch the action on
FloFC.
