ST. THOMAS – Led by a career-high 21 points from
Shaquille Walters and 11 points from
Vito Cubrilo, the Northeastern men's basketball team started the game on an 8-0 and never looked back, leading by as many as 17 in a 71-55 win over Duquesne on Friday night at the Paradise Jam.

The Huskies advance to the semifinals, where they will take on the winner of the Southern Illinois – Colorado game on Sunday at 9 p.m.

Walters finished the night 7-of-10 from the floor to lead all scorers, while Cubrilo was 5-of-7 on the night to go along with four rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Chris Doherty also finished in double-figures with 10 points on a perfect night from the floor (5-of-5).

Northeastern shot 60% on the night (27-of-45) and 7-of-16 from three while holding the Dukes to a 31% showing from the field (19-of-61; 4-of-21 from three). Primo Spears (15 points) and Tre Williams (11 points) reached double-digits for Duquesne.

• The Huskies came out red hot, opening up an 8-0 lead and forcing an early Duquesne timeout just 2:19 into the game and shooting 67% at the under-16 media timeout.

• The hot shooting continued throughout the half as Walter began to take over, finishing with 12 points in the half as the Huskies took a 21-11 lead with 7:33 until the break before taking a 31-21 lead into the locker room.

• Northeastern came out firing again in the second half, starting 3-of-5 from three to up its lead to 42-29 at the under-16 timeout.

• Duquesne wouldn't go away though, hanging around by 10 at the under-8 before the Huskies turned it on late with a 7-0 run to extend the advantage to 15 and close it out.
