Kayla McCauley scored a late winner and the back line only allowed six total shots as No. 4 seed Northeastern women's soccer (9-8-1, 5-4-0 CAA) took down No. 1 seed UNC Wilmington (11-4-1, 7-2-0 CAA) 1-0 in the semifinals of the CAA tournament on Thursday afternoon at Rudd Field.
- McCauley's goal came in the 88th minute as freshman forward Megan Putvinski (2) slid the ball across the box to junior forward Nina Dooley (1) who touched it over to McCauley in space. Her shot got past UNC Wilmington's keeper and nestled in the bottom corner for her first goal of the season and fifth of her career.
- Offensively, the Huskies kept the pressure up as they outshot the Seahwaks 8-6 on the evening and had more shots on target by a margin of 4-3.
- Junior goalkeeper Angeline Friel earned the shutout win in goal, her fourth of the season. She made three stops in the effort.
- The back line earned yet another win, gritting out a shutout. Center backs Julianne Ross and Faith Rosenblatt each played 90 minutes and made numerous key blocks.
- This is the first CAA final appearance for the Huskies since 2017, when they fell to Hofstra on the road. They last won the CAA title in 2018 when NU took down Drexel in the final.
With the win, the Huskies will play the winner of No. 2 seed Hofstra and No. 3 seed James Madison in the CAA final on Sunday, November 7 at 1 p.m. in Elon, N.C. on
