WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.
- Right-handed pitcher Cam Schlittler tossed 5.0 strong innings, striking out a career-high eight batters, while Jared Dupere went 3-for-4 with a home run, driving in three runs, and Scott Holzwasser smashed his second career grand slam, finishing with a career-high five RBIs, to rally Northeastern (1-2) past No. 17 Wake Forest (2-1), 14-11, on Sunday in the series finale at David F. Couch Ballpark. The Huskies used a six-run seventh inning to respond to the Demon Deacons' six-run sixth inning to earn their first win over a ranked opponent since defeating then-No. 28 Illinois, 8-1, on March 4, 2019.

Holzwasser extended his on-base streak to 21 consecutive games, while Dupere pushed his streak to 18 straight games. Corey DiLoreto drove in two runs and finished 1-for-3, while Max Viera and Spenser Smith each had two hits for the Huskies. Right-handed pitcher Thomas Balboni (1-0) earned his first collegiate win in relief, throwing two-thirds of an inning and striking out two. RHP Brian Rodriguez tossed 1.1 innings, striking out two, RHP Eric Yost made his debut, retiring 2-of-3 batters faced, and RHP Brandon Dufault tossed the ninth inning to close the door.

The Huskies took a 7-3 lead into the top of the sixth inning as Teddy Beaudet and Holzwasser drove in runs. The Demon Deacons responded with six hits in the bottom half of the inning and tallied six runs to take the lead, 9-7. Northeastern came right back with six runs of its own, highlighted by a two-out, two-RBI single by Kyle Peterson and a grand slam off the bat of Holzwasser to left-center field, two pitches after he hit one foul down the left-field line, to retake the lead, 13-9. DiLoreto drove in the 14th and final run for the Huskies on a sac fly to right-center field, and Northeastern held off the 17th-ranked Demon Deacons' rally efforts over the final two innings.

This was the highest-ranked team Northeastern has defeated since beating then-No. 17 Auburn, 2-1, in Auburn, Ala. on March 10, 2018. The Huskies are scheduled to face Villanova next weekend for a non-conference series Friday-Sunday, Feb. 26-28 at Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2 p.m.
