BOSTON –
Jordan Harris scored a power-play goal and Zach Solow recorded his 100th point in his career as No. 17 Northeastern (9-7-2 Hockey East) dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 14 Providence (10-7-4 Hockey East) on Saturday inside historic Matthews Arena. The Huskies scored their league-best 25th power-play goal, third-best in the country. Solow is the 53rd player in NU history to accomplish 100 points in a career.

Gunnarwolfe Fontaine tallied his ninth assist and sixth goal of the season, registering a point in three of his last four games. Connor Murphy made 19 saves for the Huskies between the pipes and Harris recorded his third consecutive game with two or more points.

The teams combined for three goals in the opening 20 minutes. The Friars netted the game's first goal just over seven minutes into the game, but the Huskies answered with a beautiful behind-the-back pass by Fontaine to Harris as he sent a one-timer to the top half of the net at the 11:27 minute mark. Just three minutes later, the Friars' Jason O'Neill scored an unassisted power-play goal to give Providence a 2-1 lead.

Providence's Jamie Engelbert put the Friars up 3-1 with a goal over 14 minutes into the third period. Fontaine brought the Huskies back within one at the 18:51 minute mark, but the Friars added an empty net goal with nine seconds to go to hold off the late-charging Huskies.

The Huskies and Friars will battle again on Sunday at 7 p.m. in Schneider Arena. The game can be followed on College Sports Live and 98.5 The Sports Hub (HD2).
