TOWSON, Md. - Right-handed pitcher
Kyle Murphy tossed 7.0 scoreless innings, scattering four hits and struck out nine, while Ben Mageri drove in the only run for Northeastern as the Huskies (31-9, 19-3 CAA) dropped a 2-1 decision to Towson (22-33, 11-11 CAA) on Friday at John B. Schuerholz Park. The Huskies led 1-0 heading into the eighth inning, but the Tigers scored two to rally past NU.
The Towson pitching staff limited Northeastern to just five hits in the game. Joining Malgeri in the hit column were
Danny Crossen,
Max Viera,
Ian Fair and
Kyle Peterson.
Eric Yost (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing two hits, two runs and walked one.
Towson's Nick Janowicz (5.0 IP) and Kody Resser (4.0 IP) combined to strike out nine NU batters and held the CAA's best hitting team to just five hits. Billy Godrick and Noah Cabrera each drove in runs in the eighth inning for the Tigers.
The Huskies loaded the bases in the ninth inning after singles by Fair and Peterson, and
Jeff Costello reached on a throwing error.
Corey DiLoreto then pinch hit and hit a ground ball to shortstop, which the Tigers threw over to second base to try and record the out, but Costello was safe on the play which looked like the game would be tied. However he was ruled out after the NCAA force-play-slide-rule was enforced to end the game.
