Ian Fair and
Ben Malgeri each homered to lead top-seeded Northeastern (33-9) to a 10-3 win over No. 4 seed Charleston (25-24) at the CAA Baseball Championship on Thursday at Brooks Field on the campus of UNCW. The Huskies jumped on top of the Cougars with six runs in the first inning and improve to 17-0 this season when scoring in the opening inning.
Schlittler won his eighth consecutive start and his 8.0 innings pitched matches his career high. Fair led the way offensively with a 3-for-5 performance, adding a home run and a double, while
Scott Holzwasser drove in three runs for the Huskies, going 2-for-5. All nine batters recorded a hit for Northeastern in the game.
Fair has reached base safely in 21 consecutive games and is riding a 10-game hitting streak.
Max Viera finished 2-for-5 and has reached base safely in 28 of 29 games played this season, while
Danny Crossen finished 2-for-5 at the dish. RHP
David Stiehl tossed a perfect ninth inning, striking out one.
Northeastern raced out in front 6-0 in the first inning courtesy of a three-run home run by Malgeri and a two-RBI single by Holzwasser. Fair crushed a two-run home run to right field in the third inning and Dupere smacked his 18th home run of the season to left field to extend the Huskies' lead to 9-1. Holzwasser delivered a RBI single in the fifth inning to close out the scoring for NU.
The Huskies advance in the winner's bracket of the tournament to face No. 2 UNCW or No. 3 Elon on Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed on
