TUCSON, Ariz. - Northeastern's
Cam Schlittler and
Max Viera were named to the
Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American Team, announced by the organization on Wednesday. Schlittler and Viera led the Huskies to their first-ever Colonial Athletic Association tournament championship as Northeastern made its second NCAA Regional appearance in the last three NCAA tournaments.
Schlittler, a native of East Walpole, Mass., led the CAA and ranks 11th in the country with a 1.88 earned run average. He won a CAA-best eight games on the mound, finishing 8-1 and was named CAA Co-Rookie of the Year, All-CAA first team, CAA All-Rookie Team and earned a spot on the CAA All-Tournament Team during one of the most impressive freshman seasons in school and league history. Schlittler struck out 85 batters in 76.2 innings pitched, while limiting batters to a .209 average.
Viera reached base in 34 of 35 games this season, and led the team with a .348 batting average, sixth in the CAA. He lifted the Huskies to their first-ever CAA tournament title with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning against UNCW in Wilmington, N.C., and earned a spot on the CAA All-Tournament Team. Viera hit a home run in the NCAA Fayetteville Regional as well, finishing the season with six dingers, 12 doubles and 26 RBIs en route to being selected to the All-CAA first team and CAA All-Rookie Team. His .589 slugging percentage is fifth in the CAA and his batting average ranks inside the top 10 for any freshman at Northeastern with over 100 at-bats.
