AMHERST, Mass. – The no. 12/13 ranked Northeastern University men's ice hockey team (16-6-1, 8-4-1) fell to the no. 12/14 University of Massachusetts (11-6-2, 8-2-2) by a score of 3-2 on Friday evening at the Mullins Center.
After falling behind in the second, the Huskies tried to battle back from two two-goal deficits, but were unable to get the equalizer late in the third period.
- Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period with UMass leading on the shot chart, 14-8.
- UMass tallied the first two goals of the game seven minutes into the second period, 13 seconds apart, to jump to a 2-0 lead.
- The Huskies tallied one back just minutes later 10:45 into the period as Jordan Harris (4) tallied his second goal in as many games. Assists went to Gunnarwolfe Fontaine (11) and Harris' defensive partner Tommy Miller (7).
- The Minutemen would extend their lead back to two goals at 16:29 in the second period, to hold a 3-1 lead going into the second intermission.
- The Huskies answered back in the third on a power play goal from freshman Justin Hryckowian (5), assisted by Sam Colangelo (7) and Fontaine (12).
- Devon Levi stopped 31 shots in the effort; his record on the season stands at 16-6-1.
The two teams will face off again Saturday evening in Matthews Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on NESN+.
