BOSTON – In the second game of their weekend series the Northeastern University men's ice hockey team (16-7-1, 8-5-1) was defeated by the University of Massachusetts (12-6-2, 9-2-2) by a score of 6-0. The game marked the first loss of the season for Northeastern in the second game of a weekend set (5-1-1).

- The Minutemen got on the board early with two quick goals within the first 2:13 of the first period.
- The Huskies would attempt to answer back on two power plays but the Minutemen killed off both opportunities.
- UMass would add on another two goals 9:05 and 13:22 into the period to take a 4-0 lead into the first break.
- The Minutemen added two more goals in the second period, including a power play tally 11:43 into the frame.
- Goaltenders Evan Fear and TJ Semptimphelter both made their season debuts, with Fear taking the reins late in the first period, and Semptimphelter seeing his first collegiate action playing the entire third period.
- Fear played 26 minutes and posted 9 saves, while Semptimphelter blanked the Minutemen in the final period stopping all 11 shots faced.
- It was just the second time this season that Northeastern had been shutout, dating all the way back October 9th vs #9 Quinnipiac (3-0 loss).
