BOSTON – Playing without senior guard
Kendall Currence for most of the game, Northeastern women's basketball (13-13, 7-9 CAA) gave third-place Towson (22-5, 13-3 CAA), all the team can handle in a 57-56 defeat on Senior Day.

In Currence's absence, freshman guard
Claudia Soriano stepped up, finishing the game with a team-high 18 points. The Huskies also got stellar performances from freshman guard
Gemima Motema and sophomore guard
Donna Ntambue each with nine points, and graduate student forward
Emily Calabrese with eight points.
- Currence got the Huskies off to a quick start in the first with a quick layup. Towson then responded back with a three-pointer to go in front.
- The teams traded points for most of the opening quarter, with neither leading by more than five. Towson took a 15-10 lead at the 4:08 mark, but free throws by junior guard Century McCartney kept the game within reach.
- McCartney ended the quarter with a jump shot, but the Tigers took a slim 16-14 lead into the second.
- The Huskies dominated to start the second with a 14-0 run, to take a 28-18 lead at the 3:53 mark. Within that stretch, Soriano had eight points.
- Towson outscored the Huskies 11-4 the rest of the way, and cut Northeastern's advantage to 32-29 going into halftime.
- The Tigers continued to chip away at the deficit in the third, and quickly knotted up the game at 34.
- Back and forth play continued, with neither team leading by more than three. Towson held on to take a 42-41 lead into the fourth.
- Ntambue gave the Huskies a 43-42 edge with a jumper in the final quarter, but Towson responded right back to take a 44-43 lead at the 7:10 mark.
- The Tigers remained in front until the 4:35 mark, when senior guard Katie May knocked down a three to give the Huskies a 49-47 advantage. Soriano then followed up with a layup a minute later to give Northeastern a 51-48 lead.
- Towson responded back with four straight points, and ultimately held on for the one-point victory.
- Ntambue was dominant on the boards for the Huskies, grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds.
- May also had seven rebounds to go with three points.Â
- Northeastern notched 30 points in the paint compared to 18 for Towson.
The Huskies will face UNCW in North Carolina on Thursday, March 3
