MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – It its CAA season opener, the Northeastern baseball team (12-9-1, 0-1 CAA) fell to the College of Charleston (13-9, 1-0 CAA) by a score of 7-3 at Patriots Point.

- The Cougars got on the board first with an infield fielders choice that scored a runner from third.
- The Huskies knotted up the score in the top of the second with a single through the ride side by Justin Bosland, scoring Corey DiLoreto from third – DiLoreto hit a single to get on base, advanced to second on an error and third on a balk.
- Charleston got a couple of unearned runs in the bottom of the third to retake the lead, and notched three more runs in the sixth on an RBI single and a two-run home run. Charleston led 6-1 after six innings.
- The Huskies started a rally in the top of the next inning as JP Olson got a four-pitch walk with one out. The next batter, Spenser Smith, hit a flukey ball down the right field line that allowed him to reach third, his third triple of the year, scoring Olson from first. Smith would run home on an infield ground out by Jeff Costello, cutting the lead to 6-3.
- An errant throw off a pickoff attempt caused another Charleston run to score in the bottom of the eighth for a 7-3 lead.
- Cam Schlittler (2-4) got the start going 5.0 innings, allowing five hits and just one earned run, while walking and striking out four.
The Huskies and the Cougars will face off again Saturday, March 26 at 2pm for game two of their weekend series.Â
