ELON, N.C. – In a rematch of the semifinal round, the Northeastern Huskies (31-29-1) fell to the Hofstra Pride (30-21) by a score of 7-6 in the 2022 CAA Championship Game at Latham Park on Sunday afternoon.

The fifth-seeded Huskies emerged victorious from the lower bracket, facing undefeated #3 Hofstra in the finals. Another close battle between the two ball clubs resulted in another walk-off with for the Pride, their fourth of the tournament.

- Hofstra jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning on two home runs and an RBI double.
- After their early outburst, Hofstra was quieted in the middle innings by reliever Jake Gilgiotti, blanking the Pride in the 2nd through 5th innings. His final line through 6.1 IP: eight hits allowed, three ER, one walk, six strikeouts. Gigliotti's relief kept the deficit and three runs, allowing the Huskies to claw back into it.
- In the top of the fifth a lead-off single by Luke Beckstein and a walk to Buddy Mrowka, put a runner in scoring position early in the frame.
- Spenser Smith doubled to left-center field, putting Mrowka on third and scoring Beckstein to make it 3-1.
- After a walk to Jeff Costello loaded the bases, Corey DiLoreto drew a full count walk to send home Mrowka to make it 3-2.
- A sacrifice fly by JP Olson on the next at-bat tied the game at 3-all as Smith tagged up at third and ran home.
- Hofstra broke through in the sixth with a two-run bottom of the inning off a leadoff triple which scored on an RBI single, and an infield single that ended the inning chasing down a runner.
- Corey DiLoreto delivered once again to cut the lead to one run in the seventh with an RBI double, scoring Luke Masiuk who led off the inning with a double. The Pride led 5-4 going into the bottom of the seventh, and extended that lead to 6-4 on a solo home run.
- Relief pitcher Nick Davis took the mound in the bottom of the eighth and delivered scoreless inning with just one hit allowed and one punch-out to give the Huskies a fighting chance going into the ninth.
- The Huskies once again showed their fight in the top of the ninth, tying the game with their last hitting chance – with one out, Spenser Smith took a four pitch walk, and Jeff Costello hit him to second with a single. Corey DiLoreto hit a single that bounced off the pitchers mound and over the infielders to right field, scoring Smith from second.
- JP Olson stepped up to the plate and delivered the game-tying run with a double down the left field line, scoring Costello to tie it at 6-6.
- Hofstra led off the bottom of the ninth with a lead-off double, and loaded the bases to knock in the winning run on a HBP.
- Northeastern's Cam Schlittler, JP Olson, and Spenser Smith were all named members of the All-Tournament team.
- Schlittler got the win in round two against #1 Charleston with nine strikeouts and two runs allowed in his 7.0 innings of work.
- Olson drove in two RBI in the championship game, bringing his tournament total to six. He batted .286 on the week with one walk, one hit-by-pitch, and was 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts. He caught 40 of Northeastern's 46 innings.
- Smith accounted for two runs in the championship game, bringing his tournament total to four. While he provided an offensive spark in many clutch situations, he truly shined on the defensive side of the ball, with a team-high 18 assists and three put-outs, and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
