BOSTON - Northeastern women's basketball Head Coach
Bridgette Mitchell is thrilled to announce the addition of transfers JaMiya Braxton and Deja Bristol to the 2022-23 roster on Friday.
JaMiya Braxton, Guard, Graduate Student, Northwestern State
"We are excited to have JaMiya join us as a graduate transfer! She has a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be an asset to our young team. Her ability to defend multiple positions paired with her ability to shoot from behind the arc will elevate our program."
Braxton, a 5-7 guard, will join the Huskies after completing her senior and junior seasons at Northwestern State. The McKinney, Texas native is a stellar shooter from beyond the arc, and led the Lady Demons in three-point field goals made in 2021-22. Prior to Northwestern State, Braxton played her first two seasons at Cleveland State, where she made scored a career-best 17 points in her rookie campaign and finished her sophomore year ranked 37
th nationally with a .407 three-point field goal percentage. She was also in the top-five in the CSU single-season record book with 72 made three-pointers and a .407 shooting percentage.
Deja Bristol, Forward, Junior, Virginia
"Thrilled to have Deja join our Husky Family because she knows what it takes to compete at the highest level. She has experience competing in the ACC and will bring that competitive spirit every day to make us a better program."
Bristol, a 6-1 forward, comes to Northeastern after two seasons at ACC opponent Virginia. Bristol talled a career-high nine rebounds in her collegiate debut at UCF, and has continued to be a force in the paint. Before Virginia, the Upper Marlboro, Maryland native played at New Hope Academy, where she capped off her high school career in style, averaging 12 points and 10 rebounds per game. Bristol was also tabbed to the 2020 All-Met Third Team, 2020 NACA All-Tournament Team, and helped lead her team to a runner-up finish at the NACA National Championships.
Bristol is an ACC Honor Roll honoree and exceptional student-athlete, who plans to study Biology at Northeastern.
