BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Northeastern men's soccer team (0-0-1) hosted the UMass Minutemen (0-0-1) for their 2022 season opener at Parsons Field on Thursday afternoon. Both teams tallied a goal midway through the second half to end in a 1-1 draw.
- The Minutemen peppered the Huskies with four shots on net in the first half, all saved by Colby Hegarty.
- Timothy Ennin recorded the first goal of the 2022 season in the 65th minute – Ryan Massoud collected the ball in midfield on a break and found a rushing Tobais Wangerud on the left side. Wangerud dribbled into the box and centered it to Ennin who hit a one-timer with his left foot to put the Huskies up 1-0.
- Despite some offensive chances following the goal, the Huskies were unable to find their second, despite tallying seven total shots in the second half.
- UMass responded in the 73rd minute after a throw in found a UMass striker in the box – the Minuteman volley made it 1-1.
- Colby Hegarty finished the game saving six of the seven shots he faced.
- The two teams will start the season 0-0-1 for the second straight season, after Northeastern and UMass also drew 1-1 in the season opener of last season.
The Huskies will make the short trip to Boston College on Monday afternoon for their 5pm kick-off with the Eagles in Newton. The game will be broadcast on ACCNetwork Extra.
