NEWTON, Mass. – The Northeastern men's soccer (0-1-1) fell to the Boston College Eagles (2-0-0) by a score of 3-2 on Monday afternoon at Newton Campus Field.
The Huskies found themselves down by a three-goal deficit midway through the second half, but they converted on two key penalties drawn in the box to pressure BC til the final whistle.
- BC opened the scoring late in the first half with a goal in the 35th minute.
- An unlucky handball in the 47th minute resulted in a BC penalty. Goalkeeper Colby Hegarty guessed correctly on the shot location, but the shot just beat his glove in the lower-left corner of his net for the 2-0 Eagle lead.
- Tobias Wangerud attempted a shot off the ensuing kickoff, and despite beating the goalkeeper, the shot curved just off-target.
- BC's third goal came in the 63rd minute after a string of Northeastern possession.
- The Huskies got one back in the 74th minute when freshman forward Fraser Brown drew a penalty kick in the box after being fouled by the BC keeper. Sophomore transfer Tobias Wangerud (1) stepped to the spot and buried a shot in the lower right corner for his first goal as a Husky, making it 3-1.
- A BC hand-ball in the box drew another Huskies penalty kick in the 80th minute – Sebastian Restrepo (1) took the penalty and tucked it upper-left corner to cut the lead to one.
- The Huskies pressured for the final 10 minutes but were unable to find the equalizer.
